Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The depth model runs on your own device, and the animation and video recording use your browser's canvas and MediaRecorder. The photo never leaves your machine.

How does it create depth from one photo?

A depth-estimation model (Depth-Anything V2, Apache-2.0) assigns every pixel a distance, and a WebGL shader shifts each pixel by its own depth as the virtual camera moves — near things move more than far things, which is exactly how real parallax works.

What photos work best?

Any photo with real depth: people, pets, products, interiors, even landscapes. Strong foreground/background separation gives the most visible effect; flat artwork or scans won't show much.

MP4 (H.264) where the browser's recorder supports it — Chrome and Edge do — otherwise WebM. Both import into Premiere, Resolve and Avid.
