Timecode math, fast.
Add, subtract, scale and convert without leaving the keyboard.
A calculation aid — double-check critical timecodes against your NLE and delivery spec, especially across mixed frame rates and drop-frame.What is a timecode calculator?
A timecode calculator does the frame-accurate arithmetic editors run all day — adding and subtracting durations, scaling them, and converting between frame rates — without the off-by-a-frame mistakes that creep in by hand. Editools' calculator runs entirely in your browser at your chosen frame rate, drop-frame included, so the result matches what your NLE shows.
How to use it
- Pick your frame rate — 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 DF/NDF, 30, 59.94 or 60.
- Type timecodes and use +, −, × and ÷ like a normal calculator; switch to number entry to scale by a factor.
- Read the result in timecode, total frames and real seconds, then copy it or reuse any line from the history tape.
When editors use it
Checking whether a sequence hits an exact runtime, adding a bumper or slate to a duration, converting a 29.97 cut to a 25 fps deliverable, or sanity-checking a frame count before export — the kind of math that's quick on paper until drop-frame and mixed rates get involved.
Frequently asked questions
What is drop-frame timecode?
Drop-frame timecode skips certain frame numbers (never actual frames) so the running timecode stays in sync with real clock time at 29.97 and 59.94 fps. Editools handles both drop-frame and non-drop, and shows real seconds next to the timecode.
Does it convert between frame rates?
Yes. Use Convert to recompute a timecode at another frame rate while preserving the real wall-clock duration, so a cut keeps the same length when you move between, say, 29.97 and 25 fps.
Are my calculations private?
Completely. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded and no calculation leaves your device.
Is it free?
Yes. Editools is free, with no sign-up, login or install.
Can I add up show segments here?
Yes — just keep entering timecodes and pressing + (or −). The calculator keeps a running total and logs every entry to the tape on the right, so you can sum any number of segment durations. For a fuller show-timing workflow — target show duration, over/under tracking and a per-segment breakdown — use the Segment Calculator.
